Sorry for the silence folks but I have been up to my neck in alligators at work so my feet havent touched the ground recently.

Tower Hill was superb and I thank all those that attended for their continued support. This years attendance was the highest yet and I am confident that will continue to increase our presence yearly. Other MN associations have also noted the swelling ranks of the PWSTS so well done fellas.

The only disappointment was not being able to speak to each and every one of you. Afterwards some of us retired to a pub for refreshments and chat. Maybe next year we should build that into our own agenda?

I was also honoured to have the privilege of being volunteered by the Admiral to lead the PWSTS in the parade. It truly was an honour and certainly better than standing in the top garden watching the ceremony. Jenny was able to take the photographs and actually managed to make a better job of it than I would have.

Thanks again everyone.

Hi Andy many thanks for your posting (good/boy)!!!!!
I make no apoligizes in having too prompt (the skipper) into a appearance !!!!!.. but when shove comes to push!!!!! and the lads were becoming a bit edgy!!!! they had been standing on the quarter/deck all that time (god it was bloody cold )!!!!!!.
And being a mere (rating) and hearing the murmuring of crew members and a good chance of a (mutiny) in hand and quickly dismissing my own safety I thought in it would be in the best interest of all to take action!!!!! Thats when I went too the blow/tube that leads to your day/cabin gave it a good/blow and you were up in seconds!!!!!!!
biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin.
Dont thank me skipper only doing my duty!!!biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Nice one Andy and Jenny, cant disagree that a post ceremony drink should be added to our agenda. From my perspective I enjoyed the day immensely as always and I had the added pleasure of having my wife and children attend this year. They too had a wonderful day so much so that I think they may be back next year. Thanks to the Admiral also as he brings people together and makes them talk to each other thus forming friendships which maybe would have been lost without him. I also would like to thank Roger who is always there in the background doing his "JOB" with perfection and always without complaint, in my opinion he represents the PWSTS with dignity and honour and a nicer person you are unlikely to ever meet, there are others like "Big Al" and Maureen who are always there. Tony, Bob , Steve and everyone else who attend "Because without them what would be? " I cannot close this posting without mentioning Bob, I was proud of the way Bob represented the PWSTS when he said his few words at the ceremony, I dont think we could have had better representation

Hi All,
I'd just like to thank everyone who attended both Dover and Tower Hill, and also all the lads for their comments and describing what went on, and of course Jenny and others who may have supplied photographs of both events. All of this helps to paint the picture for all of us who weren't there but wish we could have attended.

My personal interest is that my uncle is listed on one of the panels. He was the engineer on a Sun tug out of London and in May/June 1940 they had towed several ships lifeboats from the Thames  to Dunkirk, perhaps as many as 10 at a time. They were able to get close in shore and rescue hundreds of soldiers whilst under constant straffing by the Luftwaffe. I don't know how many trips they made but they made it without loss. They then returned to mine sweeping duties in the Thames. A year or two later they hit a mine in the Thames Estuary and blew up with the loss of all hands.  Thanks fellas.
Stu

Hi Stu,

Your Uncle was obviously a very brave and selfless man, and to be related to such a man would make anybody feel very proud!

It don't matter where in the world you live, familly ties like that would always tug at you, and to have served at sea, as your Uncle did, will always make you think of what this country once was.

If you let me have his name Stu, I'll try and get a photo of his plaque for you, if you don't already have one.

Thanks for sharing his story with us,
All the best,

Roger.

Hello to all,
Tower Hill, it seems you all had a cracking day there in East London, makes me feel very proud to be part of this family. I will make a point of being there in 2009.

Admiral,
Thanks; yes we did have a nice time, the medals you gave me in Dover (I seem to remember you said I could keep them) came in quite handy as I swapped  them for a  genuine Rolex  in Gibraltar. The nice North African chap wanted to give me £400 each for them, but I wanted  the watch.
Your nice present alas is about 50 miles out from Brest at the bottom of the Atlantic, I was admiring it and it just slipped out of my hands into the briny. Not to worry though I will get you another next time I go.

Regards John
