Sept 2010 New Zealand's Merchant Navy has been honoured at a ceremony at Wellington's National War Memorial.
The Governor-General, veterans and politicians attended the wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate New Zealand's first Merchant Navy Day.
Merchant Navy fleets operated in hazardous sea conditions, carrying troops and supplies during the Second World War.
At least 120 New Zealand merchant mariners die, and about 130 were captured.
