Red Duster could vanish

THE Merchant Navys historic Red Ensign is under threat from an unholy alliance of European Union bureaucrats and militant union boss Bob Crow, ministers warned last night.

The move could mean the Red Duster vanishing from the seas for ever.

Britain was yesterday given just two months to comply with a Brussels directive demanding equal pay on all vessels flying the Red Ensign, which dates back to the 1620s.

It would mean scrapping the practice used around the world of paying crews in line with wage rates in their home countries. Ship owners fear wage bills spiralling, encouraging the registration of vessels under foreign flags.

Triggered by a complaint from Mr Crows Rail, Maritime and Transport Union, the EU diktat is seen a potential blow to the £10billion British merchant shipping industry and a threat to 150,000 UK jobs.

Tory Shipping Minister Mike Penning said: I am determined to do everything I can to stand up for British shipping and the Red Ensign.

He was served with a Reasoned Opinion from Brussels. Ignoring the message could lead to a fine of millions of euros for every day of failure to comply.

It could mean crews from countries like Bangladesh and the Philippines would have to be paid at EU rates.

The Chamber of Shipping said members would take their business elsewhere.

Mr Crow branded the existing system modern day slavery. The European Commission said that in the absence of a satisfactory response, it may refer the UK to the Court of Justice.

Angry is a worry Michael, thats an emotion that will hurt you, and thats the last thing we want.
We in the west are under attack from all sides, even from within. In Australia we are being told we have to change the flag to one that looks like a burnt steak on a barbie, in NZ it's the same. We just have to say NO.
The countries of the AU would all be speaking German, the countries in the Pacific would be speaking Japanese if it wasn't for the likes of Australia, New Zealand, England, the USA, Canada sending their brave sons to fight two countries wanting world domination under two flags.
These brave people won the battle under their flags, and may no man take them away.
England has to say NO, we will not give up this flag, no more than the USA would, no more than any nation would.
The EU is a huge con, and the UK has to accept the pain of joining, but we will never give up the red ensign.
Can you imagine someone saying to a Texan redneck that he has to change his flag from the Stars and Stripes to something that looks like cat sick, no it would never happen, so we shouldn't let it happen either.
Our flag is special, so lets protect it.
Without getting angry.

Regards as always

R

Richard, if you fancy getting angry or a damn good rant..you go for it!. You want to hear da' Frog when he comes out of the pond after a good night on the Irish..it's a wow!. (he has been tame of recent).

Fings' can only get worse, but look on the bright side?, of recent I bought this rather smart aircraft...£1-00 and never used all I had to do was 'take it away'!. Of course there are overheads, fuel being one. This I have overcome by siphoning fuel from very expensive cars late at night. (serves you right Frog for having a nice car).
I have also downloaded from the Biggles goes Bonkers site of 'Fly a Nimrod or Bust' full instruction manual.
By my fuel calculations I will have enough to reach Australia!.(Blackpool will have a sever fuel shortage)
Hah! and you lot think I am insane eh?...this will teach you all a lesson.

Time I went to bed.
Bob
