Whilst researching family history I found :

Ethel White m William Horobin in 1910, Middlesbrough and they emigrated to Canada in 1948. Several members of his family were mariners.

They had a daughter Dorothy Ethel Horobin who married Walter Charles Bird (born abt 1917, known as Robin) in Mbro, 1935, In later life he was a pilot on the St Lawrence. They emigrated to Canada in 1937.

A cousin William James Horobin married Sarah in Mbro in 1933 and they also emigrated to Canada on the 'SS Angusdale' Apr 1954. The passenger list says that her master was Capt. W Bird. The 'Angusdale' was formerly 'Fort Wayne' a ship built in Canada for the war effort.

Is Capt. W Bird the same as Walter Charles Bird? Can anyone help out here. The only Capt. Walter Bird I have found on Google was master of the SS Chilka which was sunk in the Indian Ocean by a Jap sub 1st Mar 1942, He survived and was awarded the LLoyds Medal and OBE for his actions saving his passengers and crew. Is this Capt. W. Bird related to the other 2 above, again can anyone help out.

Any help appreciated.

Allan
