FALKLANDS 25 SUNSET WREATH LAYING CEREMONY AT TOWER HILL

The Merchant Navy Association is involved with the MoD as a member of the Steering Committee organising this special service starting at 1830 hrs on 15th June 2007.

This event will recognise and commemorate all those Merchant Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary medal holders who supported HM Forces during the Falklands Conflict and the seventeen merchant seafarers who died during the campaign.

The Merchant Navy Association are honoured to have been asked to organise and distribute all the invitations. We would appreciate your help in promoting this uniquely focused event in as many ways as possible. The Service will be held at the recently dedicated MN Falklands Memorial set alongside the other two national Merchant Navy War memorials in Trinity Gardens.

There were approximately 3,000 Merchant Navy campaign medals awarded and we are hoping to bring together as many veterans as possible in Trinity Gardens. This event is one of many being organised to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Falklands Conflict and more information can be found on www.falklands25.net.

The MoD would like us to contact all those who received decorations aboard MN and RFA ships…those who received special decorations as listed in appendix 1. If we can establish contact we will be able to send them, or their immediate families, personal invitations. In addition we are hoping to contact the Masters or families of all the MN and RFA ships in the hope of connecting with even more of those involved. Please see appendix 2. We do understand that databases are private but with this advance notice we hope that you can facilitate contact in some way.

Any of those wishing to attend are advised to send their application for tickets to the MNA’s National Chairman. Please note that all those applying for tickets must hold the South Atlantic Medal and must have a permanent United Kingdom address.
