SS DON

The SS Don loads in port and then sails out of the lock and into the River Ouse at Goole, Yorkshire, in the 1930s. This is a clearer capture than the slightly different versions of the same film elsewhere on YouTube

quote - This is part 1 of a film shot by my dad in 1967-68 when he was in the British Merchant Navy.

This film follows his travels aboard the bulk carrier Oakwood on his final voyage at sea from 1967 to 1968 and features images from South America (Chile), Japan and some rough sea footage from the Atlantic.

I edited this film together and used music from his record and cd collection, some of it music from the 1960's which helps to give it that extra bit of authenticity.

Music used in this clip are:
Jean Michel Jarre - Equinnoxe
Vangelis - Closing title theme from the movie 'The Bounty'

Check out my other videos for parts 2 and 3 of this film.

(my apologies for the poor video quality which is due to You Tubes compression and the slight flicker on the film)

Clyde Marine Training

At Clyde Marine Training, we are justifiably proud of our reputation for developing cadets -- in the UK, around a half of all Merchant Navy Officer Trainees are trained by us. With some 700 cadets at any one time, we are the country's largest marine training organisation.

We manage the entire process of cadet training - from the recruitment of each cadet through to completion of MCA exams

Video of the welland canal. the canal link lake erie to lake ontario, in canada. a series of 8 locks is needed to go from one
lake to the other one. this canal is part of the st. lawrence seaway and is open to navigation from march to late december.
1 minute of video is 1 hour of real time, it takes about 7 to 11 hours to cross the canal depending of traffic
and weather condition. the canal is parallel to the niagara falls

Joe Deacon went to sea, aged only 14 in 1942. Now nearly 80, he vividly looks back at his wartime experiences.

This short documentary was filmed in Cardiff, London and Chatham, Kent.
