Details are sketchy at the moment so watch this space. It would appear that enough money has been raised to commission the proposed permanent Merchant Navy Monument over looking Dover Harbour.
I have been informed that the monument will be unveiled on Wednesday 3rd September 2008 (Tower Hill is Sunday 7th September 2008).
As soon as I have more information I will let you know. In the meantime please mark this event in your diaries as it would be nice to get as many PWSTS boys there as possible. This event is likely to attract media attention.

Thanks Roger, it should be a great day for Dover and the Merchant Navy. Everyone knows the MN played a significant part in the war, with Dover at the forefront. As such its fitting that the PWSTS boys attend in force. Especially seeing as Dover had its very own sea training school. If you think you might be able to attend please start to add your names below. Once we have a few names Ill start to make contact with the press. If you live in the Kent area please keep the PWSTS up to date on press coverage as we build up to the event. Dover web sites arent too great so local knowledge is invaluable.
Once we have more info and names I will make a special page on the main web site.
(List to be updated on edit as it grows)
Roger Head (PWSTS official standard bearer) Andy & Jenny Gale Paul Walsh
Bob & Joan Pounder Patrick Sullivan Maureen and Alan Carman

Presently details of this event are very sketchy. If the occasion goes ahead I suspect that the PWSTS attendance will be higher than the MN Memorial Service at Tower Hill on the 7th September. It may even turn into a good excuse for a mini reunion at Dover
Ive now discovered the identity of the person responsible for organising this event. As such I have asked for confirmation and as much detail and information as possible.
Ill update this page as soon as I receive a reply.

Nice pic Sax, far better than that grumpy ole' Frog.(!) Er, thank you for your kind words Patrick & I have extended the invite to an ole' friend of mine from Dover, Lesley. She assures me that she will 'take very good care care of you' & will enjoy every minute!.
I have just received the below message from Donald Hunter (MNA) at Dover. Im afraid we will have to postpone our get together.....
Nice to hear from you Andy, please continue to keep in touch.
Re: unveiling date, I do not know who advised you of this date of 3rd Sept; but there is only one person who can fix that date and that is myself and it is too early at this stage to give a firm date as there is still a lot of work still to be done and further funding to be raised for the base/foundations. I can say however that I hope that we can have it unveiled towards the end of this year.
I would be delighted if your PWSTS boys could attend the unveiling.
Hi andy thank you for the up date, your a goodboy???? andy IVe just got it fixed in my head that it will all happen this year at dover ?????? I feel excited Ive just check my urine it is the colour it should be so I know that its all going too happen ?????? should it darken in the next few weeks then you will know its all off at dover ??????? so stand by andy ok??? give my regards too jenny please . admiral/creeper ......................
Patrick don`t know about you (I suspect I do really) but I am still up for a jaunt down to Dover in September and a ferry trip over to France for the day followed by the MN Day service on the 3rd, so are you still up for it? If so we need to start sorting out accomodation etc. Should be a good couple of days. Let me know and we can start sorting it
Hi paul nice to hear from you, hey Im still up for dover no problem I could not have a better travelling companion than you?????look forward to it . dont worry about digs ??? we go to the seamans hostel dover?????? dont forget too bring achange of nappie,s and a dummy . more than likely Ill have too mother you for the duration????????.the admiral/creeper ..........................
Don would like to plan for MN day (3rd Sept) I guess he is pulling out all the stops. If it happens he has assured me that we will be informed. Fingers crossed.
Any thing I can do to help anyone get in touch . The bit about staying at the Seamans Mission I would phone to find out as I am sure he has long term customers .
The event is now confirmed. On Wednesday 3rd September 2008 the Dover & District Merchant Navy Day Service will include the unveiling of the Dover Merchant Navy War Memorial.
Some of you will know that I tried to confirm this event earlier in the year and we were advised that it was unlikely to happen. Unfortunately the late notice of the unveiling will hamper any efforts to get as many PWSTS boys there as possible. Dover District Council are now asking for details of numbers attending so I will be conservative but can confirm that our Standard Bearer Roger Head will defiantly be in attendance.
Please let me know if you are able to attend and I will add your names to the PWSTS web page on the below link.
Im sorry for the late notice but I only received the details yesterday.
Hi skipper you and /jenny will be attending dover there has been no mention of it from you????? can you please confirm/skipper.... from all the (pwsts/boys).........
I am not able too attend Dover due to work commitments. If DDC had given us more notice we could have made efforts for everyone to attend rather that Tower Hill, including myself. I know some will still make both events but its difficult to fit both within the short time period.
We all have a living to make, and the fact that you both will be at Tower Hill again underlines the amount of hard work and planning you both put in to this organisation.
Your Royal Navy backgrounds can (just) be excused, but all of we PWSTS know that without you two, most of us would be going to neither occasion!
Count me in Andy, I will definitely be at this one. It will be nice to meet up in Dover & have a look at the old place. If anyone needs a lift from South Essex I am happy to oblige. Regards John
I totally agree with every word spoken of by (roger/head) without andy/jenny what we have all done !!!!!!!...and jenny,s dad,and all the staff!!!!! andy/jenny you will both be at dover in spirit!!!! and we will all (toast you both) in your absence!!!!! (thats /for sure) from all the boys of the (PWSTS) thank you both........
Thanks everyone its appreciated. I am trying to make arrangements to be there but at the moment it looks doubtful. I have started to make a list of who will be attending:
I have been asked to confirm the dress code for Dover. Dress for those attending is as follows: Dress for PWSTS Boys is blazer, PWSTS badge and tie, plus medals (If you don't have a blazer don't worry but please attend smartly dressed. Other Merchant Navy badges/insignia etc are, of course, perfectly acceptable).
Hi,Hi, (skipper) pwsts/dress of the day !! (you bet) it will enable us has (pwsts-boys) too say thank you dover!!!! And to feel special on the day....Admiral/creeper.............
I do not posses a blazer, but will come suited & booted with PWSTS tie & lapel badge. I will try & find my Northern Ireland medal, (if that is fitting) but have not worn it for 30 years so might take some looking in the loft.
Hi john lock (who cares a sh-t) no blazer you look out for me as I will look out for you !!!!!!!...if you cant find your medal
you can have one of (mine) I have so many!!!!!!! as the skipper said =(look/smart/look /good be proud/you are family) see you at dover !!!! patrick ............
Sharky, I am afraid the link hasn't worked, it is showing something about the gardens at Sissinghurst. To all who are attending have a good day on Sunday at Tower Hill.
I have captured the news clip from my TV so the sound is not perfect but hopefully it will be interesting to those of you that missed the news (BBC News South East)
Thanks all lot skipper for that south/east report (tv). sat 6th just stowing my kit into the car off to dagenham were Im staying overnight!!!! Then the big day (twr/Hill) ps thats the first time Ive seen that dover report!!!! Admiral/creeper............
I came across a interesting site all about dover etc, well worth the effort to give the keyboard a bash on this one !!!!!!ships in the port of dover@fotopic.net..........creeper...........
Thank you for that link, and the very moving images of othe unveiling of a truly remarkable tribute to the fallen. Also thanks to the guys who were there on our behalf, I only wish I could have been there too.
