Elder Dempster Line
Permalink

My Father, Joseph Jenkins (1917- 1999 Liverpool), was in the Merchant Navy before the outbreak of war and  sailed wth the Elder Dempster line, amongst others.

I am trying to find information about the line and pictures of the ships would be very interesting.

Any information or assistance would be appreciated.

many thanks.

I guess you have visited the below web site?

http://www.elderdempster.org/

Apparently Elder Dempster Lines was one of the UKs largest shipping companies, and during its 150 year history it operated more than 500 ships.

Some of the lads will correct me if I am wrong but if you can locate you fathers seamans card it lists the names of the ships that he sailed on.

The below link from the national archives might prove useful

Hi Windy,

Please excuse my delay in replying, I spent many hours going through family papers over the christmas break but could not find his card. He spent the last couple of years of the war in the royal navy and have found his discharge papers but nothing relating to the merchant navy.

Thank you for the Auriola clip, my Mother remembers it as one of the ships he was in, not at the time of the video though as he left the M N in the early fifties.

The Find my past link was unable to find him, niether was the national archives site. I have a picture of the TMS Apapa which one name I remember from a youngster, quite sure that was also Elderdempster so will look that up. Who knows there may be a crew list with their card number.

Many thanks

barum
