Crossed the Bar - Ben Ashton
Permalink

Read in our local paper today that Bernard (Ben ) Ashton...Limehouse 1939... crossed the bar on the 4/12/2012.

I know Ben for a little while when on the Townsend Ferries, had a few laughs...never knew he was an "Oldboy".

I only heard this morning about Bernard's passing, and I am devastated that I can't get to Barham in the morning!

I met Bernard in Normandy when I went over with our standard the same year that President Obama came over for the D day landings memorial, and he always came to the annual Dover Merchant Navy days.

Rest in peace.

Roger.
