Crossed the Bar - Gordon Pyper

It is with sadness that I report the death on Tuesday 11 June 2013 of Gordon Pyper (New Zealand) who was at the Prince of Wales in 1963 in the Arethusa class. Gordon was a good mate and we had many escapades together.  After he left the Merchant Navy he bought his own boat and became an oyster fisherman in Bluff.  He never made it back to the UK but I managed to visit him in 2002 and 2011. I will miss our monthly phone conversations talking about the 'good old days'.

Anyone requiring any information contact Barry Knell. (01484) 425670

The funeral was over,
And all the mourners gone,
Were going to miss you Sailor,
But guess your work heres done.

I bet your sailing other seas
Yes! Seas so glassy calm
And telling Angels stories
But meaning them no harm.
