update from Phil Hughes - vindicatrix

Hi! Lads,
Here's a few photos taken today at the "Samuel Plimsoll"
service 2015 at St. Martin's Church, Cheriton.  The Standards on
parade today were a local Royal British Legion, the Kent MNA, the
PWSTS & our Independent Vindicatrix Standard.  The PWSTS Standard
was carried by their new Standard Bearer Mike Westhead on his first
outing and we hope to see him again at various events. We were
represented by Dennis Stock & Alan Palin and I thank them both for
attending.  The church was very well attended with about 90 / 100
people including the great-granddaughter of Samuel Plimsoll.  Following
a short service we moved to the grave for a wreath laying ceremony
before returning to the church for a talk.  When that was over we
adjourned to the church hall for "tea & tabnabs".  I met another Vindi
boy there from Folkestone, Graham McGlone, who rose through the ranks
and has written a few books on his life at sea, along with two of my
"old" Captains from my Sealink / Stena days, John Parker & Roger Bell
which brought forth some good memories.  Also present was Alan Judge
from the Gravesend Sea School Association so I was pleased to see our
fellow shipmates there.

A photographer from the KM Group of newspapers was there and it may
well be that a report with photos will appear in the next edition of
the Hawkinge Gazette next Thursday which can be viewed on-line.

Regards,
Phil.

Just a quick thank you to Phil and the other standard bearers mentioned that made my debut as PWSTS standard bearer so enjoyable. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and look forward to representing you all at many more.

Thanks for the pics Phil, as can be seen it was a fine, calm but cold day ( it never rains at these events huh?) with a full church and very well supported by the local community and it was a pleasure to be there.

As mentioned elsewhere in this forum if anyone wants the PWSTS standard to be paraded at an event in their own area please let me know and I'll see what we can do.

Best regards,
Mike
