Just to let you know at this regrettably belated hour that I will be parading the Standard at Norbury Parish Church, Hazel Grove, Stockport this coming Sunday, 17th at 10.00 am. The official date for the ss Stockport Memorial Service has been changed to the following Sunday, 24th, 12.30 for 13.00, but unfortunately eight of a family that had a brother go down with this vessel, had already made unchangeable arrangements, a son and his wife travelling from Canada, hotels booked, cars hired exc, so cannot attend on that day but will be doing their own memorial there on the originally announced day, this coming Sunday, 17th. For regrettable reasons this will be outside the church after the normal Sunday service and I feel it necessary to be there to pay our respects when the Last Post is played in honour of such special MN personnel that did so much for other seafaring colleagues.
(Check out, and broadcast, the story of the Convoy Rescue Ships.)
Hi, Thank you for being there and doing this long trip twice due to the problems. I feel for the family coming from Canada but hope you will convey our welcome and best wishes to them. I am sorry that due to some health issues I simply can't be there this year to offer some support for your efforts. Hope you have a safe trip and take care of yourself too.
Sorry you won't be there Elwyn, health always comes first so look after yourself.
Just for the record I will be at Stockport this coming Sunday, 24th, for the official service. 12.30 at Hazel Grove Conservative Club for 13.00 at Norbury Parish Church then parade back to the club and would be pleased to see anyone that can make it.
Well Mike it's 1230 and I will be there in mind if not in body. The weather seems to be pretty good and I hope all goes well. I will raise a glass in an hours time when you should be safely back at the club.
We will remember them.
Elwyn
