I have just discovered that on Merchant Navy Day this year, Sunday 4th September, Tower Hamlets council are allowing a 13 mile half-marathon to run at the same time as our service. The route will be along adjacent roads mainly to the east with closures and station restrictions expected. As far as I can see Tower Hill tube station will remain open but advice is that anyone going to Trinity Gardens approaches from the north so anyone with a hotel south of the river may have to take a circular route to be sure. Their start time is 09.00 with a four-hour cut-off window and it's uncertain how or where the crowds, if any, will congregate so please be aware.
