Bob Ball (PWSTS 1941) has sent us a MN poem which is due to appear in the Bexhill Observer on 16th November:
Remembrance Day is over for another year. But the suffering goes on for those who are maimed and blinded, their families and those who care for them today ....... We should also remember the ships and men of the Merchant Navy, without whom war could not have waged successfully....... Revd Brian Bowyer, Bexhill United Reformed Church.
All hail to our soldiers, our airman, our tars, Who in these dark days are victims of Wars, Remember their hardships and dangers unseen, But what of the men of the Merchant Marine?
No halo, no glamour, just duty thats all, Day in and day out through the heat and the squall, The one vital cog in this great war machine, Was filled by the men of the Merchant Marine
Bob's poem made it into the January 2008 edition of The Chart and Compass, the magazine of the Sailor's Society. Also featured is Patrick (Creeper) Sullivan attending the remembrance service at Tower Hill (smart boy indeed)
