update:

Following the above service the Merchant Navy Association have organised a small reception and buffet (£8.50 per head) aboard HMS President (72 St Katharines Way). Numbers are limited and for security reasons entry is on a first come first served ticket only basis. Andy Gale is unable to attend HMS President for the reception but if anyone else would like to go and represent the PWSTS Society please contact us ASAP so we can apply for tickets on your behalf.

Hi stu thank you for those kind words!!! Im lead to belive
that I may be meeting your (godess/maggie???)whilst in
london!!! is there any tips that you perhaps could give myself in order that I present a true (tory stance) that will endure her to seek a favour of the pwsts ie perhaps having you flown to london so that you and I could have tea with her !!!! and myself in a tendance just in case you are overtaken by events
of the day !!! if this was to happen I could step in and advise maggie in which end she has to blow with out having too use one of her handkerchief,s etc, I will of course be wearing my
admirals uniform in order that it gives you a (air of importance in order that it will stabilize any out burst on your part should maggie take you to task on any subject!!!! biggrin

I am pleased to announce that Bob Ball (PWSTS 1941) has been approached by the Merchant Navy Association with an invitation to read an extract from the Kohima Epitaph at this years M.N. Remembrance Day Service at Tower Hill. Bob has accepted their invitation and the PWSTS is extremely proud that this honour has been bestowed on one of our Old Boys. History is in the making. Well done Bob.

Bob Ball was originally going to lay the PWSTS wreath but he is unable to do this now as he wont be able to stand in the sunken garden. Would anyone like to volunteer to lay the PWSTS wreath?

Thank you very much dave 1947/ out of the two of you I would pick you in a emergency !!!! (example)= if you and I were on a port line boat and it was sinking fast 4 days from all points of the compass and there was only the one life jacket between the two of us, I could rely on you too do the decent thing

Please find below a letter received from the Sailors Society. Those of you attending last year will remember the littlie red dusters containing messages planted by the Sea Cadets at the end of the service. If you would like to become involved this year please download the PDF files below. When you send off your form please mention the PWSTS.

Following on from the success of last year, we would like to invite you to become involved with our Sea of Remembrance appeal, making available to you red ensign flags for planting at Trinity Gardens Tower Hill on 7th September.

I have attached a sample of the mailing and perhaps you could let me know how many of these you might like to distribute to your members.

We would be grateful for your support and I am sure that as many of your members may attend this service it would be good to have their involvement.

Message from Steve Tester

Graham 'Goody' Goodsell is on the list of those attending MN Day. He is coming up from Melbourne to see his relatives in Rye in August. Then on Friday he is staying with me in Eastbourne for a Friday night beer. On Saturday we are going up to London and meet up with Dave McKay. So my question is, is anyone else meeting up on the Saturday 5th, or are we going to have to have a drink on our own?

permission has been given for myself to pose on my (goat/skin rug) photo shoot twr/hill 2008.!!!!!. for those (pwsts/boys who are attending and perhaps welcome this photo shoot being able to take up this rare opportunity for such a photo shoot ) with the admiral /creeper in attendance I would request a fee of £5 from each brave (pwsts/boy ) from a group which will go towards the (pwsts/training /school/society) fund !!!!! ... Also independent photo,s with the Admiral/creeper with admiral,s cap upto two persons per photo for a fee of £2. which will also go towards our society fund!!!!!... so if you could be so kind and put your name forward has from today 16/07/08....I for one pledge £5 for one group/photo. and £2 for two persons ....!!!! Dont let the admiral down or andy/jenny and the (pwsts/society)...because we need you each and every one of you ... in fact we all need each other!!!! the pwsts society and the Biss!!! wot a great cause for us all to give to (has they gave to us )!!!!!!

Andy /gale I dont remember my goat/skin rug looking anything like your picture posting!!!! (wish it had) Ive only have a small pice of my rug left!!!! the one on your posting would have been a dream come true for me weirdface

. Mine was so manky mum use to take me to the(vets/every two months too have the (ticks taken off me )?????. I also suffered from goat skin /rash!!!!! ashamed

. I was the only kidd down our street that use too (bleet/when crying)!!!!!
my mum use too smack me around the head and tell me to trot /off and be a good boy????? wink

.!!!! Andy one must remember that in our household one slice of bread was shared between four cry

I was that hungry I use to jump over mrs tooks fence when ever she through breadcrums out to the birds!!!!
the (tooks were high earners mr took was a bus driver) My dad was a lay about biggrin

. looking back they were hard times , then I went to sea and it became worse!!!!!! smile

. I can honestly say and I mean this the only time that I felt full and contented with life was my time at the (pwsts /1955) dover.
I know that I rant on at times ,But Im so grateful of the opportunity given me with the help of my sponsor that paid my pwsts fee, a Mrs crookshank god/bless her.xxxx. my parents were ask only too contribute £40 pounds....
towards my costs , Thats why Im so proud of being a (BISS/PWSTS/boy)
at the time my mum was working on the buse,s Her take home pay approx £3.12.3 per week. Just the experence of being a (pwsts/boy) was the highest
point in my life and the best ever even today . The Admiral creeper/............

Patrick was one of the smartest old boys at Tower Hill last year and Im confident that complete with goatshag rug he will also turn up in all his admiral finery. White silk scarf and all. Remember this year The Creeper is hob knobbing with the VIPs at HMS President.

.I have had enough problems with he,s twin (Dave/1947) the bloody problems they have given me in a course of time !!!!!!!.Andy that picture at first was a bit of a shock !!!! were the hell did you get that from????. Andy I must report in skipper that I think Im going to have (problems )with (bob/ball) Ive try to be nice to him and just by chance mention that I had been informed that he served some time in the catering trade at sea !!!! well that done it he went off on a tangent not so much as a by my leave kiss my clutch he was off, he as called myself all manner of things all because I mention the catering dept!!!! I dont know wot got him so pricklly as I would like to point out some of my best sea/mates came out of catering dept, ok they were poofters/but nice poofters??? so wot bob/ball got so eat up about is behond me perhaps you can try talking to him but for god sake dont mention the (catering/dept) He will tear your head/off??? biggrin

. Hope he,s in a better mood for twr /hill.. biggrin

As I am not able to attend Tower Hill this year, I will be going to Liverpool with the MNA Runcorn Branch wearing my PWSTS badge & tie. So we will have a presence there albeit a very small one.

The service starts at 1200hrs. at ST. Nicholas Church ( The sailors church) followed by a short march to the memorial at Pierhead. Then on to the Eldonian Club for a free buffet and cheap bar.

If there are any northern members not able to go to Tower Hill, I don't have to tell you that you would be most welcome to join us behind the Runcorn Branch Standard.

Good luck to all wherever they attend.
