May I repectfully suggest that we request the fixing of a plaque to the bollard that is to the right of the seating area (See pics 41 & 42 www.pwsts.org.uk/NMA.htm )
Please let me have your opinions as to this suggestion, note the other types of memorials and your views welcome.
IMHO this would keep down the cost and the plaque would be in the MN area surrounded by other MN memorials.
I await you views, what ever your point of view, please post on here, to enble this project to get underway.
Maybe we could get Prescott to attend the ceremony, anyone ?
I think you should try for Camilla, not many people ask her out so she'd probably jump at the chance, and she's sure to get a lot more publicity than any failed politician.
What we need is publicity and more members.
If you could chat up Camilla perhaps she might also come to the Reunion in Norfolk, jump out of a cake or something. Ah well, just a thought. I wonder if she wants some cards.
Apologies for not commenting sooner, but but I have been giving it a lot of thought. It's a very good proposal in a beautifull setting, and I would support it. I would be interested in your thoughts on what size the plaque would be, and how it would be fixed to the bollard if possible.
As for Stu's suggestion with regard to Camilla/Prescott, I think it worth remembering that whatever you think of Prescott, he played a large part in getting Merchant Navy Day on the statute books, and if a brainless idiot smashed an egg in my face, one way or another he would have a hard time walking again.
Sorry for rambling, I feel a bit light headed now, time for the Gin & Tonic cure.
I have to confess here, I have a soft spot for Camilla. We share the same birthday, as does Phylis Diller. Now doesn't that tell you something!!!!???? But I really wasn't serious about her doing the honours with the plaque, the leap from the cake, well, maybe that could still be a goer. Don't think Prescott would agree to the cake leap anyway.
Now if we can put all that frivolous nonsense aside I would like to make a serious suggestion.
I would like to suggest that we ask Jenny Gale if she would do the honours. As you are all aware, Jennys father was connected with both Ingham and Dover as a PWSTS instructor, and if I may say so, a much loved and admired gentleman who left an indelible impression on us all. So there is a very strong family connection, and of course the strong support Jenny gives Andy and to this organisation. Now if that isn't Brown Nosing, what is? Stu
Peter, Totally agree with the position of the plaque, it looks to be a very nice area. Glancon has a point though how is it going to be attached to the bollard ? I would second Stu's suggestion that Jenny should do the honours, I think that would be very fitting. Regards to all
