Please find below a PDF containing information and booking form for Armed Forces Day national event and Beating Retreat at The Historic Dockyard Chatham on 27 June 2009 for distribution amongst your members. Please note that this application is for individuals and not for those wishing to set up stands at the event for which I have previously circulated details. If you did not get them please let me know.
Best wishes, Mike Bray, Secretary COBSEO, 0207 202 8322
At the risk of being controversial, I personaly take offence at the changing of the name from "Veterans Day" (which included us lot, the MN) to "Armed Forces Day" (which in my book, does not)!
I am glad to say that I am not alone in this, please read the brilliant letter from Captain J.M.R. Sail in the Spring edition of "Full Ahead" magazine.
I feel so stongly about what I see as an insult to Merchant Seamen, that I am unsure about going to this event, but, I am also so very proud to be allowed to represent this organisation, that I would ask for your opinions on this matter.
Another event below but this time it mentions the Merchant Navy:
A council is holding a special flag raising event for the armed forces and merchant navy veterans.
Gravesham Council wants any residents who have served in the armed forces or merchant navy to get in touch if they want to take part in the event which happens on June 22.
A special Fly the flag for the armed forces flag will be raised at the Civic Centre in Windmill Street, Gravesend, at 10.30am and there will be music from the Salvation Army band followed by a reception for veterans afterwards.
This flag will be one of many raised nationally which will be flown until Armed Forces Day on June 27.
Anyone who wishes to take part should call Gravesham Mayor, Councillor Ken Joness secretary, on 01474 33 72 60.
