Forgotten Casualties

Official Norwegian sources and records held somewhere in The National Archives of Norway reveal the names of 64 British Merchant Seamen mainly boy ratings who were killed in service during WWII while serving in the Notraships Fleet. They all have one thing on common. None are recorded by the CWGC and are forgotten. Next project to find copies of documents at the Norwegian Archives to back up information below.

If by chance any names ring a bell with any members on here, please contact me.

I have finally had the CWGC accept the three men below from my original list accepted as official war dead and their names are to be added to the addenda section on the Tower Hill Memorial in due course. All three were lost in the sinking of the Norwegian Merchant ship D/S Blink. This has been made more poignant due to the fact I have been in touch with a relative of Noel Pappacena, whose sister is still with us and the family intend visiting her to break the news to her.

DONNASCHIE, Trimmer, JOHN.
GRAVES, Ordinary Seaman, REGINALD.
PAPPACENA, Galley Boy, A. NOEL

Email dated 3/12/2013

Dear Mr McGee,

I am writing with reference to the above named casualties John Donnashie and Reginald Graves. I have today heard from the Registry of Shipping and Seamen who have informed us that the two casualties in question will be commemorated in the same way as the late Noel Pappacena.

Kind Regards

Sharon Daly

Commemorations Assistant
