It is with regret that at the request of the family I can announce the passing of Edward Ford, Ingham 1939. Edward crossed the bar last Monday, 7th April, just one month before his 100th birthday.
Upon completing his course at Ingham he joined his first ship as deck boy in 1940 and ended his service in 1946 as third mate, serving throughout WWII, being torpedoed twice in the process. Even though restricted to a wheelchair in later years he insisted to be a regular attendee at Tower Hill along with his family to remember fallen colleagues and to give thanks to the ships of the Rescue Service without whom he would not have survived and his family not exist.
His interment will be at Oaks Crematorium, Havant, PO9 5NA at 12.15, Friday, 9th May, his 100th birthday.
A sad announcement and surely the passing of a breed of Merchant Seamen we will not see the like of again.
Remembered with thanks, appreciation and much, much deference.
