Crossed the Bar - Alan Playford

Alan Playford (PWSTS 1958) has crossed the bar

It is with deep regret we announce that Alan Playford has crossed the bar. He left us today after a brave battle with cancer.

Alan attended the 2005 reunion with his wife Jenny and helped raise funds by selling memorabilia. He later laid the PWSTS wreath at the MN Memorial Service at Tower Hill and was our standard bearer for this years service.

He has raised thousands of pounds for local charities and he will be missed by all his ship mates, family and friends.

Our thoughts are with Jenny, their children and grandchildren.

Bon voyage mate.

Funeral arrangements will be posted once known.

Safe Journey ---smooth sea's

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For though from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar.

Just looked in on the site and was saddened to learn Alan had crossed the bar.

I had the pleasure to have chatted with him at some length the M.N Memorial service in September.

He was very accepting and very upbeat, in no way was his illness going to get in the way of him living his life. If I ever have to face up to such a thing I only hope I can tackle it in the same way as Alan, undaunted and with humour.

Till we meet again.
